Valkyrie State School

In 1972 the education of the Brigalow settlers' children became a problem.

Mail was collected infrequently and so correspondence lessons were obtained on a very "hit and miss" basis - the obvious solution - a school was needed for the area.

A Brigalow School Progress Committee was formed.  After much red tape it was decided that the area would get a school.  The first teacher arrived a week before school was to start at the beginning of 1974 but the school building did not arrive until 2 weeks later.

The school was eventually officially opened on 19 July 1974.

Today we have nineteen students from Prep to Year 6.

Since 2016, Valkyrie State School has participated in the Queensland Government's Remote Kindergarten Pilot program where children with no access to mainstream kindergarten services are eligible to attend school- based kindy.

The program has been very successful and has seen Valkyrie State School become an approved kindergarten service provider. In 2019,  we have eleven children coming to kindy for a 5 day fortnight.
