Valkyrie State School is a small school which operates as the hub of our local community.

History
In 1972 the education of the Brigalow settlers' children became a problem.
Mail was collected infrequently and so correspondence lessons were obtained on a very "hit and miss" basis - the obvious solution - a school was needed for the area.
A Brigalow School Progress Committee was formed. After much red tape it was decided that the area would get a school. The first teacher arrived a week before school was to start at the beginning of 1974 but the school building did not arrive until 2 weeks later.
The school was eventually officially opened on 19 July 1974.
Today we have 16 students from Kindy to Year 6.
In 2016, Valkyrie State School was one of the pioneering school's of the Queensland Government's Remote Kindergarten program where children with no access to mainstream kindergarten services are eligible to attend school-based kindy.
The program known now as State Delivered Kindergarten has been very successful and due to it's demand in our community, Valkyrie State School became an approved kindergarten service provider. In 2022, we had one child coming to kindy for a 5 day fortnight.
